Nomination paper distribution for RUCSU election starts

RAJSHAHI, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS)- Distribution of nomination papers for the election of Rajshahi University Central Students Union (RUCSU), Hall Council and Student Representatives to Senate began today.

Professor Setaur Rahman remained engaged as the chief returning officer while Prof Nurul Momen, Prof Mahmudul Hassan, Prof Shamima Nasrin, Prof Abdul Khaleque and Prof Mahbubul Islam as returning officers and they are supervising the distribution work. 

Earlier on August 19, a final voter list was published for the upcoming RUCSU and other relevant elections.
 
In the list, there are 25,152 students, including 15,468 females, who are eligible to exercise their rights of franchise in the students' body election of the public university.
 
A total of 221 students from the Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) were added to the final voters list.
 
Earlier in the draft voters list, there were 25,127 voters meaning that 456 voters dropped out from the final list. 
 
Chief Commissioner of RUCSU election told BSS that the voter list will also be available in the concerned residential halls.
 
After over three decades, Rajshahi University (RU) students are going to get back their representative rights as the election to RUCSU is going to be held after a long gap of 35 years.
 
Already, the necessary preparations for holding the election are going on in full-swing.
 
According to the announced schedule, the election will be held on September 15 next.
 
On July 28 (Monday), a seven-member election commission announced the schedule for the RUCSU polls.
 
As per the schedule, the code of conduct has already been published, and the draft and final voter lists were also released.
 
Nomination papers will be distributed from August 24 to 26. Submissions will be accepted on August 27 and 28 while scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on August 31 and September 1. The preliminary list of candidates will be published on September 2. Candidates may withdraw their nominations on September 3. The final list will be published on September 4.
 
Polling will be held in all residential halls on September 15 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
