2 held with 58 walkie-talkies in city

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) –Two individuals along with 58 walkie-talkies were arrested in separate raids at Farmgate and Malibagh area in the capital on Monday. 
 
The detainees have been identified as - Anikul Islam Naeem (35), hailed from Baktabali under Fatulla Police Station of Narayanganj district, and his associate Sabbir Ahmed (25), a resident of 3/B Bihari Para Ansar Camp, Mirpur, Dhaka. 
 
Being tipped off, a joint team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) and BTRC arrested the duo in separate operations conducted in Farmgate and Malibag areas on Monday, said a press release.
 
A total of 58 walkie-talkie sets, 290 walkie-talkie set batteries, 595 chargers, 250 walkie-talkie set clips and 250 ribbons were seized from their possessions during the operations, it added. 
 
During the initial interrogation, the detainees confessed that they have been illegally selling walkie-talkie sets through their online company called BOAFANG HANDY for a long time. 
 
But the arrested accused could not show any license or technical acceptance certificate or any other valid documents regarding the walkie-talkies and parts seized from their possessions. 
 
Each of the walkie-talkies are illegally imported at Tk 800 or Tk 1,000 and sold at 2,000 to Tk 5,000.The price of the walkie-talkies varies according to the charge capacity of the battery. 
 
The arrested accused stated that they purchased these walkie-talkies from China through door-to-door online services. 
 
The general public of the country considers a person carrying a walkie-talkie as a member of the law enforcement forces. 
 
Taking advantage of this opportunity, criminals using walkie-talkies have been organizing serious crimes including robbery, road robbery, kidnapping and ransom by posing as fake DB, RAB members, DGFI members, NSI members and law enforcement officers.
