Six drug smugglers held with 1.20 lakh yaba pieces

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested six drug smugglers and recovered 1.20 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets along with a wooden boat during a special drive off the coast of Saint Martin's Island in Cox's Bazar. 

The estimated market value of the seized contraband is nearly Taka 6 crore.

The information was disclosed in a press release issued by Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul Huq, received here today.

Acting on a tip-off, a special drive was carried out around 4am in the sea area adjacent to Chhera Dwip, a part of Saint Martin's Island under Teknaf Thana. During the operation, the Coast Guard team searched a wooden boat and recovered a large quantity of Yaba tablets, along with the vessel itself. Six drug traffickers were also arrested from the scene.

Legal proceedings against the arrestees and the seized items are currently underway, the release added.
