Dr Shafiq meets British High Commissioner

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today met British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke at his office in the city's Bashundhara area.

Kate Ward, Second Secretary at the British High Commission accompanied the High Commissioner during the meeting.

The meeting focused on the overall political situation in Bangladesh, democracy and governance, the forthcoming national elections, human rights issues, the status of minorities and the ongoing Rohingya crisis.

Both sides expressed keen interest in further enhancing the longstanding relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

From the Jamaat side, Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Assistant Secretary General and head of the party's Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Ameer Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan attended the meeting.
