DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) unearthed initial evidence of anomalies and malpractice in infrastructure projects and healthcare services during three separate drives in Dhaka and Noakhali districts.

According to an ACC press release issued today, the operations were carried out following complaints about irregularities in the construction of a bridge, a school building, and in public health service delivery.

An enforcement team from ACC's District Office Dhaka-2 launched an operation into alleged corruption in the construction of a 270-metre-long bridge over the Ichamati River in Nawabganj upazila.

The team first visited the office of the Executive Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Agargaon and reviewed project files before inspecting the site at Bandura.

The inspection revealed that while eight out of nine spans of the bridge had been completed, the arch span remained unfinished. However, official documents showed that 95 percent of the project was marked as complete, with bills worth Tk 50.84 crore already cleared.

The ACC team said the discrepancy between financial disbursement and physical progress indicates strong evidence of irregularities.

In another drive, an ACC team from its head office investigated alleged anomalies in the construction of a six-storey building at Gabtoli Government Primary School in Mirpur.

On-site inspection found that only two floors were completed, despite the contractor having received payment for four floors. The team collected part of the project documentation and said further verification of records is underway.

Separately, the ACC's Integrated District Office in Noakhali conducted a drive at Sonaimuri Upazila Health Complex over allegations of malpractice and harassment in service delivery.

Disguised ACC officials found that, despite sufficient stock, patients were being denied government-supplied medicines and told to purchase drugs from outside.

The team also found that the hospital failed to publicly display its medicine stock as required, while cooked meat portions served to patients were just 40-50 grams instead of the stipulated 90 grams.

Authorities concerned were instructed to take immediate corrective measures.

The ACC said detailed reports will be prepared and submitted after thorough verification of records and information gathered during the drives for necessary action.
