DHAKA, Sept 11, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today granted bail to Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) independent vice president (VP) candidate Jalal Ahmed in a case filed on the charges of attempting to murder his roommate at a residential hall.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order following a hearing.

The court heard both sides and granted bail on a bond of Tk. 5,000, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prosecution Mainuddin Chowdhury told BSS.

Earlier, on August 27, Shahbagh police arrested VP candidate Jalal and produced to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.

Sub Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station and also investigation officer Asadul Islam produced Jalal and sought to send Jalal in jail until completion of investigation into the case.

On the other hand, Jalal's lawyer pleaded to grant his bail. Chief metropolitan magistrate Minhazur Rahman heard both sides and sent him to jail.

On 27 August, the university authorities filed an attempted murder case against Jalal with Shahbagh Police Station, police said.
