RAJSHAHI, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting here today unanimously said proper rehabilitation and nursing can be the crucial means of transforming the street children into worthy citizens.

Utmost emphasis should be given on mainstreaming the rootless children through integrated efforts of all the government and non-government organizations concerned.

The observations were made at a view-sharing meeting at the Integrated Children Rehabilitation Centre (ICRC) at Chhotobangram area in the city.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is operating the centre to improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0-6 years.

ICRC Programme Director Abdul Hamid Mian addressed the meeting as the focal person. DSS Additional Director Tapas Falia, Deputy Director Munira Khatun and Deputy Director of ICRC Programme Kamal Uddin Chowdhury also spoke.

The discussants mentioned that integrated efforts of all the government and non-government organizations have become an urgent need for rehabilitating the street children.

The present interim government has been implementing various programmes for the rehabilitation of street children.

Side by side with the government efforts, the non-government organizations and the community as a whole should come forward and work together to attain the cherished goal of transforming the street children into worthy citizens.

The meeting stressed the need for giving priority to the street children in terms of their birth registration and availing other public services.
