DHAKA, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said the nation will not forgive if fascism returns due to political disunity.
He said, "The nation will not forgive the return of fascism due to the disunity among political parties. Despite differences of opinion, we will unite in the coming days on matters concerning the country and its sovereignty to prevent the return of the fascist Awami League."
Salahuddin made the remarks at the anniversary programme of the newspaper Naya Diganta at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
The BNP leader said, "For the sake of democracy, everyone must come together, regardless of ideological differences or divergent views, to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country. We will remain united to close all doors to the return of the fascist Awami League."
Salahuddin Ahmed added, "For writing just two or four columns, I had to remain in exile for about nine and a half years and endure torture in prison. But I never backed down from the path of struggle."
"At one time, Mahmudur Rahman Bhai, the editor of Amar Desh, and I were held in the prison cell of PG Hospital.
We were kept in a cell in the Coronary Care Unit and could see each other. He was on a hunger strike then. I tried hard to persuade him, saying, 'If you die, Sheikh Hasina will be pleased; please break your fast.' Later, after six or seven days, seniors intervened, and he broke his fast," added Salahuddin.
Emphasizing that everyone must step forward to build a new Bangladesh while upholding the glorious history of the July Uprising, Salahuddin said, "We must build Bangladesh's future on the legacy of the bloodshed during the student movement. Our responsibility is to establish a truly democratic society, state, and government system for our children."
He urged everyone, saying, "We must honor the pledge made with the blood of our children. Let all remain united."
