DHAKA, Oct 25, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that if we do not know the history of our ancestors, patriotism and love for the country will not awaken among us, and we won't find inspiration in education either.
Rizvi made the remarks as the chief guest at the 'Meritorious Student Reception Ceremony.' Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq Foundation organized the event at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in the city.
Addressing the students, the senior BNP leader said, "You have seen the students' movement - the July Uprising in last year. You witnessed the self-sacrifice of boys and girls of your age. A student named Mugdha, even after being shot, was carrying water for his comrades - this is self-sacrifice. Only by knowing this history patriotism will be born."
Rizvi said, "Sher-e-Bangla Fazlul Huq was such a great man who dedicated his life to illuminating the Muslim community with education. His father was among the first Muslims to pass B.A. in 1862. Fazlul Huq himself showed unique brilliance in education by completing his Master's in Mathematics with only six months of preparation."
He continued, "While Fazlul Huq was Prime Minister, he introduced the roll number system so that only a roll number, instead of a name, appeared on examination papers - creating an opportunity for fair evaluation regardless of religion or caste. Furthermore, he mandated the appointment of an Arabic or Persian teacher in every school to increase job opportunities for Bengali Muslims. If the new generation does not know the contributions of these great people, they will fail to recognize their roots."
At the event, crests and certificates were awarded to the meritorious students who achieved GPA-5 from Vikarunnisa Noon School and College; Ideal School and College and South Point School and College.
The foundation's Chief Adviser Marghub Morshed presided over the event, while President Engineer Abu Hanif was present as the keynote speaker. BNP Chairperson's Adviser SM Abdul Halim, Foundation's General Secretary Ziaur Rahman, and Mohila Dal Joint Secretary Sabina Yeasmin were also present.
