Dhaka court clears Fakhrul, Abbas and 161 others of explosive charges

DHAKA, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today acquitted 163 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, in separate cases filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders, accepting final reports submitted by police in both cases, defence counsel Jakir Hossain Jewel told BSS.
 
According to the case documents, police filed one case with Ramna Police Station against 59 BNP leaders and activists, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on charges of vandalising and setting fire to vehicles in front of the Chief Justice’s official residence on October 28, 2023. Police later submitted a final report in the case, recommending the acquittal of all the accused.
 
The other case was lodged with Shahbagh Police Station against 104 people for allegedly vandalising and torching vehicles in front of Paltan Police Station on the same day. Police recently filed a final report in this case as well.
