4 to die in Barishal rape case

BARISHAL, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced four people to death for raping a girl in the city area in 2016.
 
Judge of Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal M Rakibul Islam delivered the verdict in presence of three convicts on Sunday afternoon, said public prosecutor of the court Abdul Mannan Mridha.
 
The court also fined them Taka one lakh each.
 
The convicted are Russell Gazi, Rajib Jamaddar, Md. Zahid and Khokon Khan. Among them, Rokon Khan is absconding. All four accused are residents of Dhan Gabesna Road area of Barishal city.
 
According to prosecution, On November 10, 2016, the victim left her house with one lakh taka and was going to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) Hospital.

When she got into an auto rickshaw, the driver took her somewhere else. She shouted for help, the accused beat her up. Later, they took her into the forest in the city's Trish Godown area and forcibly raped her in turn. 

The next morning, her family rescued her and admitted her to the OCC of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) Hospital.
 
The next day, the victim filed a case with the Kotwali Model Police Station, naming four people as the accused.
 
Later, the police inspector of the Kotwali Model Police Station, Md. Ataur Rahman, submitted a charge sheet to the court on November 23, 2017. The court delivered the verdict today after taking the testimony of 11 witnesses.
