DHAKA, Oct 26, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police today arrested a woman drug racketeer from city’s Uttara area and seized 285 kilograms (KGs) of ganja from her possession.

The DB Wari division from a reliable source came to know that a gang of drug racketeers have been waiting with a huge consignment of drugs near Bata Show room at Uttara area on Dhaka-Mymensigh Highway at about 2.30am. 

On the basis of this information, three teams of the DB rushed to the spot and found one Rubi Akhter waiting with a travel bag and a plastic bag near a private car and a microbus. Sensing the presence of the DB men, the microbus and the private car left the scene. The DB then arrested Rubi Akhter from the spot but her husband Harun Sarkar(34) managed to escape from the spot.

Police later seized 132 packets of ganja weighing 285 kilograms from the travel bag and the plastic bag. The seized cannabis is worth about Taka 71,25,000.

The DB officials said that arrested Rubi Akhter and her husband Harun are the members of a major drug racketeer and were involved in drug trafficking in the bordering areas of Cumilla and Dhaka for a long time.

Lawful measures were taken against Rubi and her husband in this connection.
