1800 illegal gas connections severed in Narayanganj

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) – A total of 1800 illegal gas connections were severed and a huge number of unauthorized pipelines and equipment were removed from three separate spots of Bandar upazila of Narayanganj district on Sunday.

Executive Magistrate Monija Khatun, attached to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division conducted a drive in Bandar upazila of the district and severed the illegal gas connections.

During the drive, Taka 100,000/- were realized as fine from the illegal gas users, said a press release here today.
 
At the first spot, Jangal Bus Stand area covering Jangal, Barpara and Bandar, about 1,000 double-burner residential connections, with a total load of around 700 cubic feet per hour, were severed. 

The team also removed 180 feet of 2-inch MS pipe, 5 feet of 3-inch MS pipe, 5 regulators, 1 two-inch valve, and 4 lock wing cocks. Around 5 kilometers of illegal distribution lines were in use in this area.

Besides, in the second spot, Keodala area of Bandar (Olympic Biscuit Goli), about 500 double-burner residential connections were disconnected, cutting off an estimated load of 350 cubic feet per hour. 

A total of 40 feet of 2-inch MS pipe, 500 feet of ¾-inch MS pipe, 1 two-inch valve, 12 regulators, 5 lock wing cocks, and 2 pipe wrenches were seized. About 5 kilometers of unauthorized gas lines were found in operation there.

Moreover at the third spot, Madanpur Bus Stand in Bandar upazila, roughly 300 double-burner residential connections were cut off, with a total load of 490 cubic feet per hour--70 for residential and 420 for commercial use. 

From the site, 15 feet of 2-inch MS pipe, 50 feet of 1-inch MS pipe, 1 regulator, 2 star burners (45 cft) and 1 two-inch valve were removed. About 1.5 kilometers of illegal distribution lines were found.

But, no cases or FIRs were filed in this connections.Each illegal source line was permanently sealed to prevent re-connection.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division reaffirmed its resolve to continue such drives against illegal gas connections to ensure lawful use of state resources and restore order in the gas supply system.
