RANGPUR, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) Central President Md Zahidul Islam has said that Rangpur region is still far behind in terms of development.

“Those who had taken charge as public representatives and led this region have done politics to fill their own pockets. They have not done the real politics of development. For these reasons, Rangpur is lagging behind other regions of the country,” he said.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the reception ceremony of the first-year honors students of Rangpur Carmichael College and meritorious students who have secured places at the departmental levels at Shaheed Minar of the institution today.

With the support of Rangpur Metropolitan ICS, Rangpur Carmichael College organized the program with Rangpur Metropolitan ICS President Nurul Huda, in the chair.

ICS President Zahidul Islam said that the people of Rangpur are very hard-working and play a crucial role in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh.

Despite playing many roles in the economy and important sectors of Bangladesh, the sad truth is that Rangpur region has not developed to the extent that the region was supposed to develop.

“Therefore, the present students will have to take responsibility as the next generation. They will have to work for the development of Rangpur and for the whole country,” he said.

He said that Rangpur Carmichael College is an educational institution with a lot of history, brilliance and tradition. This college has many talented people who have served the country at various levels.

The current students of this reputed and glorious educational institution will have to prepare for the future by taking the hands of the successful past. Therefore, they will have to study attentively.

“Along with studying, the students of the present days will have to be aware and prepare for the country,” he said.

The ICS President said that Rangpur is a brave region of the country. The symbol of this brave Rangpur is martyr Abu Sayeed, who has glorified not only his Begum Rokeya University and Rangpur, but the entire country with his unprecedented bravery.

He said, “Abu Sayeed, who stood in front of the bullets with his arms outstretched in the July Movement, and those who played a role in expelling the brutal fascist regime from the country with their lives, will live among us forever.”

Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee Member Mahbubar Rahman Belal and former Carmichael College ICS President Mehedi Hasan, among others, addressed the program, moderated by Carmichael College ICS President Abu Sufian.
