191,493 people receive govt legal aid helpline services

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 191,493 people have received legal assistance through the National Helpline Call Centre (toll-free 16430) under the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).

According to the report, published on the website of the NLSAO, legal assistance has been provided in 443,798 cases for insolvent litigants, while a total of 1,303,643 people have received government-funded legal services during the period from 2009 to September 2025.

It further mentioned that under the organization, 29,791 people received legal aid through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, while 1,052,686 through 64 district legal aid offices, and 29,673 through the Dhaka and Chattogram Labour Legal Aid Cells.

The report also said that 191,493 individuals were served through the toll-free National Helpline Call Centre (16430).

Initially, government-funded legal services were launched at the district level. Later, the toll-free 16430 service, Labour Legal Aid Cells, Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, prison legal aid, and helpline services were introduced gradually.

These services are provided free of cost under the Legal Aid Services Act to ensure access to justice for financially insolvent and underprivileged people. The activities of NLASO are implemented under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
