Former Jubo League leader Samrat gets life in arms case

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - A special court here today convicted and sentenced expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat to life imprisonment in an arms case.

Judge Md Ibrahim Miah of Dhaka Special Tribunal-2 pronounced the judgment in absence of the former president of the Dhaka south city unit of Jubo League, and issued arrest warrant against the convict, court clerk Shahadat Ali told BSS.

"Samrat had raised a vicious cadre group to run his extortion business in public and private offices. He used to employ them to keep his monarchy of sins intact. He even had involvement with around 10 clubs that ran casino businesses," the court said in its observation.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat along with his associate and also former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman from a village in Cumilla's Chauddagram Upazila on October 6, 2019.

RAB later raided Samrat's Kakrail den and recovered huge quantity of foreign liquors, a 7.65 calibre pistol, five bullets and a deer hide. On October 7, 2019, Deputy Assistant Director of RAB-1 Abdul Khaleq filed a case against him under the arms act and another case under the narcotics control act.

RAB filed charge-sheet against Samrat on November 6, 2020, and the special tribunal on January 16, 2025, framed charges against him. 

A total of 10 witnesses testified in the case.
