Mirza Abbas, 74 others acquitted in Special Powers Act Case

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today acquitted 75 leaders and 
activists of BNP, including its standing committee member Mirza Abbas, in a 
case filed under the Special Powers Act with Shahjahanpur Police Station in 
the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, accepting 
the police's final report in the case.

The other prominent people, who have been exempted from the case, are- BNP 
leader MA Bashir Nipu, Mizanur Rahman, Robiul Awal Mintu, Al Amin, Mirza 
Tarikul Islam Zikir and HK Hossain Ali.

Police filed the case against 49 on October 29, 2023, for hurling cocktails 
and torching vehicles in front of the Kamalapur Railway Officers Quarter, the 
day earlier. 

Later, a charge-sheet was filed against 75. The Investigation Officer (IO) on 
February 20, 2025, filed the final report, pleading to let the accused go of 
the charges.
