DHAKA, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has submitted an 18-point proposal to the Election Commission (EC) with the aim of ensuring a free, fair, and neutral national election.

A seven-member delegation led by Jamaat’s Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon and presented their demands.

Assistant Secretaries General Maulana A.T.M. Ma’sum, Rafiqur Islam Khan, and Hamidur Rahman Azad were present, among others.

Four Election Commissioners also attended the meeting.

After the meeting, Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Porwar said, “We have presented 18 demands to the CEC to ensure a fair election. They have provided clarifications on what steps are being taken, the challenges they face, technical limitations, and possible measures.”

“They emphasized cooperation from political parties, and we assured them of our full cooperation. But the election must be held in a fair manner,” he said.

“In our 18-point proposal we have demanded that the referendum must be held before the national election,” he said.
He also urged everyone to rise above individual and party interests and work in the greater interest of the nation to make the upcoming election impartial.

The proposals include ensuring complete neutrality in the recruitment of election officials — including presiding officers, polling officers, Ansar members, and law enforcement personnel, deploying adequate members of the armed forces at polling centers, installing CCTV cameras in all polling booths, excluding controversial officials who were involved in previous disputed elections from any election duties, appointing administrative officers (DCs, SPs, UNOs, and OCs) through 100% lottery-based selection, while appointing returning and assistant returning officers, ensuring honesty, competence, and neutrality — preferably from within the EC’s own officials where possible, ensuring the strong presence of the armed forces, BGB, RAB, and police at least one week before the election at all polling centers and ensuring equal opportunities for all political parties through maintaining a level playing field.
