DHAKA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why an order should not be passed to provide Taka two crore in compensation to the family of Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed after a bearing pad of the metro rail station fell on him in Dhaka's Farmgate area on October 26.

"The court issued the rule, seeking explanation as to why an order shall not be passed to give Taka two crore to the family initially, along with further compensation later. The court also wanted to know why necessary amendments shall not be made to ensure adequate compensation for victims under the Metro Rail Act," said Advocate Tanvir Ahmed, who moved the plea before the court.

A High Court Division Bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan passed the order after holding hearings on separate writ petitions filed by three lawyers including Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun and Advocate Tonu Halder.

Advocate Tanvir Ahmed and Advocate Biplob Kumar Poddar took part in the hearing on the petitions.

Meanwhile, the court also directed the formation of a high-powered expert committee to conduct a safety audit and structural stability assessment of the Dhaka metro rail lines and pillars, and to submit an investigation report within 30 days.

Regarding this order, Advocate Tanvir Ahmed said the government has been directed to immediately form an independent and high-powered expert committee comprising university professors, structural engineers, and private sector specialists.
