Police arrest one for cheating with people

DHAKA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS)- Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a person on charge of cheating with people in the name of giving dealership business and job in exchange of money.

In this way Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, 52, has acquired crores of Taka and he was arrested yesterday from city’s Mohammadpur area, police said today.

A press release of the CID said the arrested person was deceiving people for a long time by offering dealership business and job in different consumers food product companies.

As a tactic of his deception, he would first rent attractive and well-furnished outlets at various locations and stocked those stores with different consumer products. 

Initially, he used to purchase high-quality essential commodities (such as sugar, lentils, etc.) from the local open market and would make fake packages with the packets of branded companies, offering wholesale buyers to sell those at prices lower than the market rate.

He would use social media, distribute leaflets, and utilize other media platforms to promote the dealership offers and attract potential victims.

The press release further stated that there are 26 cases filed against him with various police stations including Motijheel thana in Dhaka. 

During the preliminary interrogation, Jahangir Hossain confessed that he has done fraud with least 300 small businessmen and embezzled approximately Taka 10 crore with this fraudulent practice.

Police seized application forms containing the names and photos of the aspirants of dealership business and job seekers. 

Business cards of the fraudulent person containing his fake identities were also seized while counterfeit product price lists, product samples, mobile phone and a computer used for the fraudulent activities was confiscated.

Police action is underway to produce him before the court and remand to unearth more information of his deception.
