RANGPUR, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Convener of youth-led National Citizens Party
(NCP) Md Nahid Islam has said that their party will sign the charter if the
process of implementing the July Charter is finalized.
"The NCP is supporting the first proposal of the last two decisions of the
Consensus Commission, subject to conditions," he said.
He made these comments while exchanging views with local journalists after
interviewing the aspirants for posts of all eight district and one
metropolitan units of NCP in Rangpur division at Parjatan Motel in the city
on Wednesday evening.
"If the elections are to be held in February, the issues of the July Charter
must be finalized and at the same time, the Election Commission must be
reformed to ensure a level playing field in the elections," he said.
Nahid said that the consensus commission was formed after the mass uprising.
Therefore, the proposals of the consensus commission are being approved in
the referendum, he added.
"The next government will formally incorporate the constitutional reform into
the constitution. Due to which the next government will not have any
jurisdiction to make changes," he continued.
"This proposal of the consensus commission seems right to the NCP. There are
such examples in many countries of the world," Nahid Islam said.
After the mass uprising, people of the country had a lot of expectations from
the present interim government, he added.
The young political leader said, "People want change, but fear is working
among people, whether fascism and dictatorship will come again, whether there
will be a place for people to speak, the question has arisen."
"Now, we are facing a crisis. National unity is needed to deal with these.
Besides, there must be a common ground by solving the problems that exist
within our own parties, because without minimum unity, the government will
not be able to survive,"
"Also, if we go to the elections without fulfilling the demands, reforms, and
aspirations of the people for justice, it will not be sustainable," he said.
Regarding the preparation for the elections, Nahid said, preparations for the
elections are being made without depending on anyone or facing each other.
"We will not do politics by depending on anyone or facing each other. If
there is a need to reach an agreement or alliance with someone for the needs
of the country or for strategic reasons for the elections, we are ready," he
continued.
Nahid Islam also said if someone thinks that they will lead alone or form the
government, in fact, it will not be considered right.
As part of the organizational activities, interviews were held from the
morning to form convening committees for all eight districts and one
metropolis of Rangpur division.
The interview programme was attended by NCP member-secretary Akhtar Hossen,
its chief organiser of the northern region Md Sarjis Alam, organising
secretary of the Rangpur division Dr Atiq Mujahid, Sadia Farzana Dina and
other central leaders.
