DHAKA, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) has demanded the Election Commission to abstain individuals with political affiliations from all election duties to ensure a free, fair and impartial 13th parliamentary election.
The party submitted a nine-point proposal to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission office at Agargaon, led by its President Nurul Haque Nur.
The proposals include barring individuals with political affiliations from serving as returning officers, presiding officers, or in any election-related duties.
The party also demanded installation of CCTV cameras in all polling centres and the arrangement of giant screens outside polling stations so that the public can observe polling and vote counting activities in real time.
A seven-member delegation, led by Nur, attended the meeting with the CEC, while Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed was also present.
After the meeting, Nur told reporters that their visit aimed to learn about the EC's election preparations. "The Commission is moving ahead with the election process, and the CEC informed us that steps have already been initiated regarding our nine-point proposal," he said.
Nur further said, "We urged the CEC to stand firm and take independent decisions. No fascist force should be allowed to contest in the upcoming election. The Jatiya Party should not be permitted to take part either."
"Along with the Awami League, the Jatiya Party should also be brought under trial by the International Crimes Tribunal," he said.
He said that if divisions persist among anti-fascist political groups over the 'July National Charter', it might create uncertainty about holding the election on schedule.
Other points in the GOP's 9-point proposal include ensuring the voting rights of expatriate Bangladeshis, allowing candidates' agents to accompany ballot boxes both from the returning officer's office to polling centres and back, guaranteeing journalists' access to polling stations and suspending voting in case of complaints regarding centre takeovers or black money influence.
The party also proposed action be taken based on evidence if any candidate's supporters obstruct or intimidate the supporters of others, officials who performed election duties in the past three elections be excluded from duty this time, and that no adviser to the current interim government be allowed to contest the 13th parliamentary election.
Besides, Gono Odhikar Parishad called for a complete reshuffle of the administration after the announcement of the election schedule.
