Dhaka, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 26 Rohingyas, including women and children, from Baharchhara in Teknaf while they were being trafficked to Malaysia by sea.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque confirmed the incident this afternoon.

He said intelligence reports indicated that a group of people, including women and children, were waiting in a small boat near Abdul Ali Ghat in Baharchhara's Jumma Para area with the intention of illegally traveling to Malaysia.

Acting on the tip-off, members of the Baharchhara Coast Guard outpost conducted a special operation around 7 pm on Tuesday and rescued the 26 Rohingyas from the boat.

During primary questioning, the rescued individuals said organized human trafficking syndicates have been luring both Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals from Teknaf and other areas with promises of lucrative jobs, low-cost travel, and a better life abroad through dangerous sea routes.

The traffickers managed to escape after detecting the presence of the Coast Guard, and no arrests were made. However, efforts are underway to identify and detain those involved, the Coast Guard officer said.

He added the Coast Guard will continue such operations to curb human trafficking and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals.
