Construction worker dies after falling from under-construction building at JU

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Nov 1, 2025 (BSS) - A construction worker died after falling from a ten-storey under-construction building at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Friday evening.

The deceased, identified as Rakib, 26, hailed from Gomostapur Upazila in Chapainawabganj district.

The incident took place around 5:30pm when Rakib, who was carrying garbage down from the site, fell from the eighth floor of the construction site. 

Fellow workers promptly rescued him and rushed him to Islamia Medical in Savar. Due to the severity of his injuries, Rakib was transferred to Enam Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead around 6:30pm, said a press release issued by JU Public Relations Office.

Contacted, JU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr M Mahfuzur Rahman said, "The university administration has decided to form an investigation committee to examine any potential procedural lapses that may have led to this tragic incident. In the meantime, all construction activities on campus have been suspended until further notice."

"The probe body will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fall, and the construction site has been temporarily shut down to ensure the safety of workers," he added.
