DHAKA, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS) - Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been re-elected as the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for a third consecutive term, covering the 2026-2028 session, according to an official announcement by the party.

The results of the internal election were declared late Saturday night by Maulana ATM Mashum, Chief Election Commissioner and Assistant Secretary General, who oversaw the voting process.

Voting was conducted via secret ballot among the party's Rukuns, the highest-ranking members, across the country from October 9 to October 25. After the voting period ended, the responsible election team completed the vote counting.

The official declaration said that Dr. Shafiqur Rahman secured the highest number of votes, thereby winning the Ameer position for the upcoming three-year term, Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand told BSS.

Under Article 15(2) of the Jamaat-e-Islami constitution, the Ameer is directly elected by Rukuns for a three-year tenure. Although the central leadership nominates a three-member panel for the Ameer election, Rukuns nationwide are free to vote for any candidate of their choice.
