Court orders seizure of tax files of ex-finance minister Mustafa Kamal, family

DHAKA, Nov 03, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the seizure of tax files belonging to former finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, his wife Kashmiri Kamal, and their daughters Kashfi Kamal and Nafisa Kamal.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order after accepting four separate applications submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
 
In its plea against Mustafa Kamal, also known as Lotus Kamal, the ACC said it is investigating allegations that he abused his authority to unlawfully acquire assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. He is also accused of keeping those assets under his control and conducting suspicious financial transactions through 32 bank accounts in his name, involving the transfer, conversion, and relocation of funds.
 
The ACC further alleged that Kashmiri Kamal assisted her husband in committing the financial crimes, claiming that illegal wealth amounting to Taka 44 crore was amassed in her name and kept under her possession. She is also accused of making transactions worth Taka 29.73 crore through 20 bank accounts, involving transfer, conversion, and relocation of funds.
 
Meanwhile, their daughters Kashfi Kamal and Nafisa Kamal are accused of suspicious financial transactions amounting to Taka 177.48 crore and 199.23 crore respectively through 38 and 18 bank accounts, in addition to other allegations.
