DHAKA, Nov 4, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami today called on the interim government to hold the referendum on the July Charter within November and to ensure parliamentary elections in February next year.
The demand was made at a meeting of the party's Central Executive Council chaired by Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman this evening.
During the session, attended by Central Executive Council members, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman highlighted key outcomes of his recent overseas visits and noted their positive impact on the country and the nation.
The Council expressed concern over the government's delay in giving legal effect to the July Charter and warned that proposals to hold the referendum and the national election on the same day could undermine the process and the significance of the referendum.
"If voting at any polling station for the general election is suspended, the referendum could also be delayed, which is unacceptable," the Council said.
Jamaat urged the interim government to issue the implementation order for the July Charter immediately and stressed that parliamentary elections must follow in February based on the referendum outcome.
The Council also called for installation of CCTV cameras at every polling station to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
