CHATTOGRAM, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has taken an initiative to build election office buildings with server stations in Karnaphuli and Sandwip Upazilas in Chattogram on an urgent basis.

The EC has sent a letter to the Deputy Commissioner requesting urgent land allocation to this end, sources familiar with the development told BSS here recently.

The letter stated that 10% of land is required for the construction of each upazila election office building with server station. This request applies to Karnaphuli and Sandwip Upazilas in Chattogram district.

Bashir Ahmed, the district election officer, informed BSS that the Chattogram Regional Election Office, District Election Office, and the city's Thana Election Office Building and server stations are situated on the EC's own land at Jubilee Road in the city.

Among the upazilas in Chattogram, only Karnaphuli Upazila and Sandwip Upazila lack election office buildings with server stations, while all other upazilas have them.

The EC has already requested land from the Deputy Commissioners (DC) for establishing two offices, including election office buildings in Karnaphuli and Sandwip upazilas, he added.

The letter states that each upazila election office requires a minimum 10 percent of land.

The District election office received this information through a letter signed by Mohammad Mustafa Hasan, Deputy Head of the EC's Research and Publications Branch, on November 3.

The EC's letter emphasizes the urgent need to construct election office buildings ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections, local elections, voter list preparation, and national identity card services.

The Election Commission needs land allocation for the construction of regional, district, and upazila election office buildings, the sources said.

The letter requests the district administration to expedite the process of allocating land for the Election Commission Secretariat to facilitate the construction of these offices, they added.
