SYLHET, Nov 05, 2025 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said Awami League has no scope to participate in the next parliamentary elections.

"Awami League itself does not want elections. They could not prove that they believe in elections," he told reporters at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.

Dr Shafiqur said the next election must be held in February, otherwise there will be scopes for chaos.

About forming any alliance before elections, the Jamaat Ameer said, "We are not forming any alliance, but will enter the voting field with the countrymen. Along with Islamic parties, patriotic, promising and honest people are also joining with us. We want to build the country with everyone."

Regarding the political context of the country, the Jamaat Amir said, the people could not vote in the last three national elections. People want to vote, they want change, he added.

He said none should commit corruption and allow others to do so. Only then, the country will be beautiful, he said.

Regarding the neutrality of the administration, he said, "We have already proposed to the Election Commission and the government that those who have behaved in a biased manner in the past should be removed. Because when the people wake up, no administrative influence can survive. The will of the people is reflected.

About the election schedule, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said different types of chaos and instability can occur if there is too much delay to hold polls. Therefore, it is better to hold the election on time, he added.

He said Jamaat has already announced the names of candidates for various seats. "However, this is not final. If necessary, there will be changes in the candidate list," he said.

Sylhet city Jamaat Ameer Fakhrul Islam and District Jamaat Amir Maulana Habibur Rahman, among others, were present.

After being elected as the Ameer of Jamaat for the third term, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman arrived in Sylhet on a two-day visit. Thousands of leaders and activists gathered at the airport to welcome him.
