DHAKA, Nov 5, 2025 (BSS) - In a successful anti-Jatka operation, the River Police recovered around 1,000 kilograms of juvenile Hilsa (Jatka) from a passenger launch on the Meghna River early this morning.

The operation was conducted by Gazaria River Police Outpost in Munshiganj district, under the Narayanganj region, as part of the ongoing Jatka protection drive, said a press release of the force.

Acting on secret information, a team River Police intercepted MVAsa Jawa-5, a passenger launch traveling from Patuakhali to Dhaka.

During the search, officers discovered 19 containers filled with about one ton of Jatka, abandoned and without an owner.

The estimated market value of the seized fish is Tk 5 lakh.
The confiscated Jatka Hilsa were later distributed among the poor, needy, and local orphanages and madrasas.

The nationwide Jatka conservation programme in effect from November 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, strictly prohibits the catching, transport, marketing, purchase, sale, and storage of undersized Jatka to protect the species and ensure sustainable fishing practices.
