DMP arrests 4 more AL leaders in ongoing crackdown in city

DHAKA, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police 
(DMP) overnight arrested afresh four leaders and activists of now disbanded 
Awami League (AL) from different parts of the capital.

"Raids at different parts of the city yielded their arrests as part of our 
ongoing campaign. They included leaders of different organizations affiliated 
to Awami League as well," an official familiar with the process said.

He said those who were arrested were initially accused of staging frequent 
"flash marches" in the capital chanting slogans of the banned party aiming to 
create a law and order situation.

DMP's Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the incident, 
adding subsequent legal procedures including their court production process 
were underway against those arrested.

DMP, meanwhile, issued a statement naming the seven people saying they were 
arrested in 24 hours ending this morning.

The arrested are: Savar Upazila Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) leader 
Sohanur Rahman Sohan (21), Bhatara Thana AL Vice-President Abu Sayeed alias 
Parvez alias Zahirul Islam (38), Kamrangirchar Ward No-57 Jubo League's 
Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Ruhul Amin (28) and Kabi Nazrul Government 
College BCL's former President Kazi Atiqur Rahman (50).

The DMP statement said Sohan was arrested by DB Uttara Division conducting a 
raid at Alamnagar housing in Savar at about 8:5pm yesterday, while another 
team of DB Gulshan Division arrested Zahirul Islam from Bhatara Police 
Station area at about 7:45pm on the same day.

In addition, the DB team of Lalbagh conducted a raid at Bangshal Police 
Station area and arrested Ruhul Amin at about 3:40pm while another DB team of 
Wari Uttara Division conducted a raid at Jatrabari Police Station area and 
arrested Atiqur Rahman at about 2:20pm.
