Khulna AL leader Faiz held from capital

KHULNA, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) - Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested Kazi Faiz Mahmud, vice-president of Khalishpur Thana unit of Awami League (AL) in Khulna, from the city's Bashundhara residential area early Friday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Metropolitan DB Police Taimur Islam said they had been searching for Faiz over the past few days.

Based on information, a DB team conducted a raid at a rented house in Bashundhara and arrested him.

He said Faiz is now being brought back to Khulna for further legal procedures.

Police said several cases, including charges of subversive activities, have been filed against him with Khalishpur Police Station.

According to police sources, there were also allegations of abuse of power against Faiz during the Awami League government's tenure.

He allegedly used his acquaintance with Sheikh Sohel to exert undue influence in various places.
