KHULNA, Nov 7, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and ex-lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar said ignoring the demand for a referendum under pressure from any political party could push the forthcoming national election into a severe crisis.

He urged the government to immediately issue an order to implement the July National Charter and announce the date for the referendum.

Speaking as the chief guest at an election rally at Jugnipasha under Fultala upazila this evening, Parwar said, “Apart from BNP, several other political parties have also submitted notes of dissent. Therefore, the proposals made by the National Consensus Commission for the referendum, based on the July Charter, should now be finalized without adding any note of dissent. This is now a public demand.”

Parwar said his party welcomes the proposal for dialogue among political parties to resolve the ongoing political crisis.

“Jamaat-e-Islami has long been calling for an all-party dialogue, including BNP, to reach a consensus. The government must play a mediating role in this regard, and Jamaat is ready to extend full cooperation,” he added.

He further said time is running out, and the schedule for the referendum must be announced before the declaration of the national election schedule.

“Those who have signed the July Charter should now stand by the agreed reforms. Bringing new notes of dissent or opposing previously settled issues is unjustified and against the national interest,” he observed.

Parwar also said Jamaat-e-Islami is prepared to take part in the national elections to be held in February, 2026, provided that a level playing field is ensured.

Jamaat leader Syed Abu Zafar presided over the event. Among others, district secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, assistant secretary Gausul Azam Hadi, district executive council member Sheikh Sirajul Islam, advocate Abu Yusuf Molla, Fultala upazila Ameer Maulana Abdul Alim Molla, upazila secretary Maulana Saiful Hasan, and district Labour Welfare Federation vice-president Ali Akbar Morol also spoke at the event.

Later, Parwar addressed another election rally at Moshiari Southpara under Atra-Gilatala Union of the same upazila.
