CUMILLA, Nov 8, 2025 (BSS) - Police have detained 44 people on charges of organizing and participating in a flash procession held by the banned terrorist outfit, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), here in the city.

They were arrested in separate drives conducted from Friday night to Saturday morning.

Banned BCL activists held a flash procession on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway after Friday prayers. Following the incident, police conducted drives in various areas and arrested a total of 44 leaders and activists of fallen fascist Awami League, Jubo League andBCL, including general secretary of the Cumilla district Shramik League, Sher A Alam.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rashedul Haque Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

Police sources said that to avoid arrest, some perpetrators gathered at a specific place on the highway and held a flash procession, primarily pretending to join a BNP program.

They had planned to vandalize and set fire to vehicles on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway following the instructions of the central Chhatra League.

Initial questioning revealed that former MP A. K. M Baha Uddin Bahar, who is absconding abroad, and some leaders of the banned BCL, sent money to destabilise the area, said police sources.

It was also learned that some people who were hiding were working as instigators behind this procession through provocative posts and comments on social media.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rashedul Haque Chowdhury said 44 people were arrested from different parts of the district for disrupting public order and legal action is underway against them.
