Ex-Babuganj chairman among 3 AL men arrested in city

DHAKA, Nov 8, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested three leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL), whose activities remain banned, and its affiliated organizations in separate drives across the capital in the last 24 hours. 

They were detained on charges of bringing out sudden anti-government processions in the capital with an intention to disrupt law and order, said a police press release. 

Among the detainees is former Babuganj Upazila Chairman and ex-president of Babuganj Upazila AL in Barishal district, Kazi Emdadul Haque Dulal (60), who was arrested from the Khilgaon area around 3:15 pm on Friday.

Organizing Secretary of the Jatiya Sramik League's Lakhai Upazila branch in Habiganj Mohammad Ismail Mia (37) was apprehended from the Paltan area around 12:45 pm the same day.

President of the D-Block unit of Pallabi Thana Ward No. 5 Awami League and former Jubo League leader Md Abdus Salam Khokon alias Naira Khokon (60) was arrested from the Pallabi area last night. 

Sources said Naira Khokon was a close associate of former lawmaker Ilias Mollah and had been actively coordinating Awami League processions in the area.
