DHAKA, Nov 9, 2025 (BSS) – BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said that the people’s right to vote must be returned to restore democracy in the country.
He said, “The people's right to vote must be returned to restore democracy; this is the greatest reform needed today.”
Khasru made the remarks as the chief guest at a book launching ceremony at the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) auditorium in the city.
The book titled “Guideline Recommendations for Building an Advanced Nation of the Future” was authored by Mohammad Fayez Uddin.
The veteran BNP leader said, “Those who came to power through an electoral farce suppress not only the opposition but also the country's civil society.”
“This is the time to hand power back to the people. The formation of a neutral and popularly elected government in the country is a must so that every state institution can once again work independently.”
“We do not want conflict; we want tolerant politics and freedom of expression. The BNP believes that respect for different opinions is the foundation of democracy. The future of the state depends on the reconstruction of the political culture,” he added.
Khasru said, “No state institution has been functioning properly for the last 14 months due to the presence of an unelected government. When a government is not elected by the people’s vote, every state institution loses its independence and accountability.”
The BNP leader emphasized, “The rule of law and an efficient administrative structure are essential for the proper governance of a country. The job of the police administration is to serve the people, not to dominate them. The people must be viewed as partners, not servants.”
“There is no alternative but to form an elected government to restore accountability to the state. The administration and the judiciary must be freed from political influence,” he added.
