Mobile court seizes 3,250-kg polythene

DHAKA, Nov 09, 2025 (BSS)- The Department of Environment (DoE) conducted mobile court drives in different parts of the country today in accordance with the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995 (amended 2010), the Sound Pollution Control Rules, 2006, and the Air Pollution Control Rules, 2022. 

In the drives conducted in Bogura, Narayanganj districts and Chawkbazar area of ??Dhaka metropolis, Taka 4 lakh was fined and collected in six cases through three mobile courts for  crime of production, sale, supply and marketing of banned polythene and 3,250 kg of banned polythene was seized. 

During this time, leaflets were distributed to various markets, super shops and shop owners to give a warning message to stop using banned polythene and to increase public awareness.

On the same day, in a drive conducted in Tikatuli area of ??Dhaka city under the Sound Pollution Control Rules, 2006, a fine of Taka 15,000 was imposed and collected in six cases through one mobile court and 60 hydraulic horns were seized. 

In addition, cautionary instructions were issued to the drivers of the vehicles concerned. 

On the other hand, in accordance with the Air Pollution Control Rules, 2022, in Tikatuli and Shyamoli areas of Khulna and Dhaka city, a total of Taka 65,500 fine was collected in four cases through three mobile courts for air pollution caused by construction materials. 

In addition, the owners of the concerned institutions were warned and instructions were given to immediately remove the air polluting construction materials.

The Department of Environment has called on the public to cooperate in environmental conservation and obey the law.
