DHAKA, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) – The Supreme Court (SC) has withdrawn the earlier relaxation of its dress code—wearing of black coats and gowns—in the subordinate courts, tribunals, and both the Appellate and High Court Divisions, which had been allowed due to the severe heatwave.

Accordingly, all law practitioners of the apex court, as well as its subordinate courts and tribunals, will be required to wear black coats and gowns while conducting hearings from November 16.

The Supreme Court has issued separate notifications in this regard on November 11.

Signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee, one notification stated that the earlier order issued on March 25, relaxing the dress code for lawyers of both divisions of the apex court, has been cancelled.

“The lawyers will participate in the hearing of cases in both divisions of the Supreme Court by following the relevant provisions regarding the dress code mentioned in the ‘Supreme Court of Bangladesh (Appellate Division) Rules, 1988,’ and the ‘Supreme Court of Bangladesh (High Court Division) Rules, 1973,’” the notification added.

Another notification said the Honourable Judges and lawyers of the subordinate courts and tribunals have been directed to follow the dress code as prescribed in the ‘Civil Rules and Orders’ and ‘Criminal Rules and Orders.’
