SAVAR, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) - Panic spread in the Ashulia area of Savar early Wednesday morning after miscreants set fire to a parked bus and fired several rounds of blank shots to create chaos.

The incident took place around 4:45 am today in front of Women and Children's Hospital near Sarkar Market on Bypail-Abdullahpur road, police and fire services sources said.

The bus, belonging to Alif Paribahan, was parked at the spot when the fire broke out. Bus driver, Abdus Sattar, who was sleeping inside at the time, narrowly escaped with his life.

"I was sleeping inside the bus after parking it. Suddenly, I felt the heat of the fire and woke up to see the bus burning. To save my life, I jumped out. Outside, I saw four masked men standing on two motorcycles. When I started screaming, they fired several rounds of blank shots to create panic and then fled," Sattar said.

Upon receiving information, members of the DEPZ Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control within about 15 minutes, said Senior Station Officer Pranab Chowdhury.

By that time, most of the bus had already been reduced to ashes, he added.

The bus owner, Md. Sohel Mia, said the bus was his only source of livelihood.

"This borrowed bus was all I had. When it caught fire, I broke down on the road," he said, demanding compensation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Hannan of Ashulia Police Station told BSS that police visited the spot soon after the incident.

"A drive has been launched to arrest the culprits based on eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage," he said.
