Forest official sent to jail in ACC case in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 12, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sent Forest Department Range Officer Sultanul Alam Chowdhury to jail in a case filed at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chattogram office for allegedly amassing illegal wealth. 

Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Mizanur Rahman passed the order today.

Sultanul Alam surrendered and applied for bail but the court rejected it and ordered him to be sent to jail. Sultanul Alam Chowdhury, 57, is son of the late Azharul Haque Chowdhury from Madhyam Karoldenga area in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram. 

He currently works as a Range Officer in Daganbhuyan, Feni district. He previously served in the Patiya Range of the Chattogram South Forest Division. According to ACC sources, Sultanul Alam Chowdhury initially joined the Forest Department's nursery project as a plantation assistant in 1990.

In 2000, Sultanul Alam’s temporary job was made permanent. 

On April 16, 2023, the assistant director of the ACC's Chattogram office filed a case against Sultanul Alam. After an investigation, on March 12, Deputy Assistant Director of the Chattogram ACC Md. Salahuddin filed charge sheet in court. The charge sheet revealed that Sultanul Alam Chowdhury had illegal assets worth Tk 47.37 lakh that were not consistent with his known sources of income, as well as another Tk 16.1 lakh that he had concealed in his asset declaration to the ACC. 

ACC lawyer Md. Rezaul Karim Rony confirmed the details and stated that the accused surrendered to the court and applied for bail, which was rejected. The court sent him to jail after investigation.
