
DHAKA, Nov 13, 2025 (BSS) - In a series of extensive operations conducted over the past seven days, the River Police have made significant progress in protecting the country's fisheries resources and ensuring safety across waterways.
According to a press release, the River Police recovered 3,01,17,875 meters of illegal fishing nets, 2,987 kilograms of fish, and 240 kilograms of jellied shrimps during these operations.
Additionally, 615 illegal fishing bushes were destroyed from various rivers.
Authorities have also filed prosecutions against 72 bulkheads in the Naval Court due to the absence of valid documents.
Over the course of the week-long operation, 319 individuals were arrested, and 82 cases were filed - including 59 under the Fisheries Act, 13 for reckless driving, 4 for unintentional deaths, 2 under the Narcotics Control Act, 2 under the Special Powers Act, and 2 for murder.
Moreover, seven bodies were recovered during the operations.
Officials confirmed that the seized illegal nets and jellied shrimps were destroyed, while the recovered fish were distributed to local orphanages.
The River Police have reiterated their dedication to ongoing operations aimed at curbing illegal fishing and maintaining safety across the nation's waterways.
