DHAKA, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) - Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen today said that the commission would publish names of those who will try to create illegal pressure on it.
“In the coming days, we will disclose the names of those who will try to apply undue pressure on the ACC,” he said while exchanging views with journalists at the ACC conference room here on the occasion of its founding anniversary.
Regarding prevention of corruption in the upcoming national elections, Dr Momen said, “We hope that the upcoming national election will be held peacefully and fairly as the interim government expects. But the question is—we have seen the influence of black money in previous elections and perhaps we will see it again. But why does black money enter into the process?”
On the issue of filing affidavits before the election, he said, “You’ll notice that the time between submitting the asset statements and finalizing them is very short. It would be better if the government declares that candidates must submit their asset statements to the ACC beforehand so that we can form a task force to review them.”
Speaking on corruption prevention, the ACC chief said, “The sole responsibility for preventing and reducing corruption across Bangladesh lies with the ACC. If we think of a country that has successfully tackled corruption, Singapore comes first. Every government office in Singapore acts as an anti-corruption institution and beyond that they have an organization like ours to oversee.”
About the graft case disposal, the chairman said, “Dhaka is the capital of the country, and yet we have only 11 special judge courts. Even if these 11 judges do not take weekends off, it would still be impossible for them to dispose of so many cases. So, the number of courts must be increased. Without more courts, the backlog will remain. For quicker disposal of cases, we must increase the number of courts. And as far as I know, the law adviser is very sincere in this regard. The Chief Justice and the Attorney General have been working tirelessly to increase the number of courts.”
At the meeting, it was informed that the ACC is working to ensure that the Election Commission provides the affidavits of election candidates directly to the ACC.
ACC Commissioners Miah Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi, Brig Gen (retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid and commission secretary Mohammad Khaled Rahim were present at that time.
