DHAKA, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Chief Justice has appointed Supreme Court (SC) Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddique as the secretary of the newly established Supreme Court Secretariat.

With this appointment, the Registrar General will now serve as the administrative head of the Supreme Court Secretariat while continuing his existing duties.

The Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance, 2025 was enacted to create an independent secretariat for the apex court, aimed at ensuring full judicial autonomy. The Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry issued the ordinance on Sunday as per the President's directive.

The Chief Justice made the appointment in line with the separation of the judiciary. According to sub-clauses 2 and 4 of Clause 4 of the ordinance, the Chief Justice holds authority over the Supreme Court Secretariat and is legally required to appoint a secretary to lead and oversee its administrative functions.
