JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - A fire broke out at Mohammad Habib Mia’s hotel in the Bot Tola area of Jahangirnagar University (JU) this evening, reportedly originating from a gas cylinder around 6:30 pm.

According to witnesses, the blaze started suddenly from a gas cylinder inside the shop. The JU proctorial team and a unit of Savar Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot immediately and brought the flames under control within around 20 minutes. Although no casualties were reported, one hotel staff member, Jahir, sustained burn injuries.

Saiful Islam, an employee and eyewitness, said the fire erupted from the gas cylinder regulator, destroying all food items and stored supplies in the shop.

“With the help of locals and the proctorial team, the fire was contained. Fire Service officials inspected the spot and the situation is now normal,” he added.

Md Jahangir Alam, Senior Station Officer of Savar Fire Service & Civil Defence Station said a leakage or fault in the cylinder regulator or connecting point likely triggered the fire. “We managed to control it quickly, preventing major losses,” he said.

JU Proctor Dr. A.K.M. RashidulAlam said the proctorial team responded promptly and assisted the fire service in extinguishing the blaze.
