DHAKA, Dec 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the capital's Lalbagh area.

The detainee, Samad Uddin Bijoy, 27, is the general secretary of BCL's Mugda Thana unit and vice-president of Dhaka South City Sheikh Russell National Shishu Kishore Parishad.

CTTC officials said a raid was carried out in the Lalbagh Thana area around 7:00 pm today based on a secret tip-off. During the operation, the team arrested Bijoy, who had been under surveillance for suspected involvement in political unrest, according to a press release.

CTTC sources said Bijoy had taken part in protest processions linked to the Awami League, whose activities remain banned in the Agargaon and Demra areas of Dhaka.

Authorities confirmed that legal procedures against him are now underway.
