NARAIL, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) - The 40th death anniversary of Ekushey Padak-winning folk legend Bijoy Sarkar will be observed in a befitting manner here tomorrow (Thursday).

A daylong programme has been arranged on the premises of the district Shilpakala Academy, organized by the district administration and the Charan Kabi Bijoy Sarkar Foundation.

"The programmes include placing wreaths at the singer's portrait, a cultural show featuring his songs, and a discussion," said SM Akram Shahid Channu, general secretary of the foundation.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Abdul Salam will attend the discussion as the chief guest.

Born on February 20, 1903, in Dumdi village under Narail Sadar upazila, Bijoy Sarkar wrote around 1,800 songs, including Jari, Sari, Kirton, Bhajan and Bhatiyali. He also composed poems and spent his life devoted to music and simple living.

His philosophical songs on nature and humanity continue to inspire new generations of singers.

Bijoy Sarkar received the Ekushey Padak in 2013.

He died on December 4, 1985, at Keutia in Kolkata, West Bengal.
