JU to host ‘Butterfly Fair-2025’ on Dec 5

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Dec 3, 2025 (BSS) – Jahangirnagar University (JU) is set to host the ‘Butterfly Fair-2025’ on December 5 with the aim of raising public awareness about butterfly conservation.

The 15th edition of the day-long fair will be organised by the Entomology Section of JU's Zoology Department, said Prof Dr Md Monwar Hossain, Convener of the Butterfly Fair Organizing Committee-2025, while addressing a press conference at the teachers’ lounge of the central cafeteria this afternoon.

“This year’s fair will honour eminent wildlife expert and conservationist Dr Ali Reza Khan with the Butterfly Award 2025. The Butterfly Young Enthusiast 2025 award will be jointly conferred on Shahariar Rabbi Tanmoy and Nure Afsary, students of the Department of Zoology,” he said.

Prof Monwar said that the third edition of the book Butterflies of Bangladesh, featuring photographs of 360 species along with biological and gene-based identification information, will also be unveiled on the occasion.

“Adviser for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan is expected to be present as the chief guest at the ceremony,” said Prof Monwar.

The fair will feature a wide range of activities, including a rally, puppet show, origami session, drawing and quiz competitions for children, butterfly photography exhibition and contest, kite flying, debate competition, documentary screening and a butterfly identification contest.

An open garden showcasing butterfly-friendly plants, live butterflies and breeding sites will remain accessible throughout the day at the Butterfly Park and Research Centre.

This year’s title sponsor of the fair is ‘Cute’, while supporting partners include Prokriti O Jibon Foundation, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Arannayk Foundation and the Bangladesh Forest Department. Channel i and Radio Tumi have joined as media partners.
