BARISHAL, Dec 5, 2025 (BSS) - A fire that broke out at a yarn factory of Khan Sons Group in Barishal's BSCIC industrial area this afternoon, was brought under control after nearly two and a half hours.

The blaze erupted around 2:00 pm, causing significant economic losses, though no casualties were reported. Two units of the Fire Service worked for about two and a half hours to extinguish the flames.

Workers said the fire spread rapidly due to the large quantity of yarn in the factory and the absence of an adequate firefighting system initially prevented them from controlling the fire, increasing the damage.

Senior fitter Nadim said around 150 workers were evacuated immediately, preventing any major loss of life.

Another senior fitter, Rubel Hossain, said the fire is suspected to have started from an electric short circuit and that reels of yarn and key sections of the factory were burned. "Most of the firefighting cylinders were empty, which hampered initial efforts," he added.

Khan Sons Group General Manager Jatindra Nath Mistri said the full extent of the damage will be assessed later.

Barishal Fire Service Assistant Director Md. Faruk Hossain Sikdar said an electrical short circuit is suspected as the cause.

"Two Fire Service units worked for hours to bring the blaze under control and assessment of losses is underway," he said.
