Illegal gas connections cut, fines imposed in Narayanganj

NARAYANGANJ, Dec 05, 2025 (BSS) - Mobile courts disconnected a large number of illegal gas connections during drives in the Madanpur area under Bandar Police Station on Thursday, imposing fines and jail terms on offenders.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources disclosed the information in a press release issued today.

According to the release, evidence of illegal gas use and unauthorised extension of commercial connections was found during the raids. A total of 180 feet of illegal pipeline was removed, including 80 feet of 3/4-inch MS pipe and 100 feet of 3/4-inch hose pipe.

The drives also disconnected 13 star burners, one double-burner stove, eight single-burner stoves, four modified burners and one booster, with a combined connected load of 600 cubic feet per hour. Mobile courts collected Tk 1,10,000 in fines.

In a separate operation, 80 feet of 1/2-inch hose pipe used for illegal commercial connections was seized. Five star burners with a total connected load of 216 cubic feet per hour were also recovered.

The restaurant manager responsible for the illegal setup admitted the offence during the operation. The mobile court sentenced him to three days' simple imprisonment.
