DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Begum Khaleda Zia, the country’s first woman Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
In a condolence message, Udichi Acting President Nasirul Alam and General Secretary Jakir Ahmed Tapan conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, relatives, admirers, well-wishers, party leaders, activists and supporters.
They said the nation has lost a guardian figure with the death of Khaleda Zia, who dedicated her life to the struggle for democracy in Bangladesh and made the highest sacrifices in that pursuit.
Udichi leaders noted that Khaleda Zia’s contributions to building a liberal democratic society in post-independence Bangladesh, expanding women’s education, and advancing the vision of a modern Bangladesh will be remembered by the nation for generations.
Referring to her political role, they said Khaleda Zia emerged as a trusted leader of pro-democracy forces during the mass democratic movement against the autocratic Ershad regime in the 1980s.
Khaleda Zia’s continuous resistance and firm stance against fascist misrule over the last 16 years served as a source of inspiration for the anti-fascist democratic movement in the country, the message reads.
Paying profound tribute to Begum Zia’s long and eventful political life and legacy, the Udichi leaders said the people of Bangladesh will remember Khaleda Zia with deep respect for her uncompromising struggle for the country and democracy.
